Sustainability becomes an important global issue within modern industrial, public and business sectors. It refers to the United Nations (UN) definition of sustainable development, i.e. development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Based on such definition, we may define a sustainable system, in a systems view, as a system that can function without limits towards the future. Indeed, developing such system deals with strategic decisions to balance any related resource constraint. Consequently, it imposes some changes in organizations within such sectors including requirements of products and services, compliance managements, cost reduction opportunities, regulations as well as revenue generations. Information engineering, which deals with generation, distribution, analysis and use of information in a particular system by leveraging appropriate information technology infrastructures, plays a significant role in order to facilitate organizations to develop a sustainable and/or eco-friendly solution required to achieve such particular goals.
The International Conference on Sustainable Information Engineering and Technology (SIET) and its satellite events is designed to become a federated educational event to fostering prospective participants to share their recent theoretical knowledge, research findings and experiences in dealing with sustainable information engineering and technology. We encourage academia, researcher, business entrepreneurs, practitioners, and policy makers to attend and participate at the following programs: a main conference, symposiums, workshops, CEO talks, research showcase, national seminar and IT challenge. This year, Faculty of Computer Science, Brawijaya University, Malang, Indonesia will establish and host the 1st International Conference on Sustainable Information Engineering and Technology (SIET 2016) and its satellite events which will be held on October 15 – 19, 2016.
