Riri Fitri Sari is a Professor of Computer Engineering in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia (UI). She previously served as CIO/Head of Information Systems Development and Services at the University of Indonesia from 2006-2014. She earned a BSc degree in Electrical Engineering from UI and a Master's degree in Human Resource Management from Atmajaya University in Jakarta. She then completed an MSc in Software Systems and Parallel Processing from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Sheffield, UK funded by the British Council Chevening Award. She earned a PhD in Computer Networking from the School of Computing at the University of Leeds, UK. Her PhD research focused on Active Network-based Congestion Control Protocol. Her primary teaching and research areas currently include Computer Networking, Grid Computing, IoT and Blockchain Technology.
Prof. Riri is a Senior Member of the Institute for Electronics and Electrical Engineers (IEEE), representing one of only 8% of Electrical Engineers worldwide. In November 2011, IEEE Region 10 Asia Pacific announced her as the recipient of the IEEE WIE Most Inspiring Engineer Award, which was presented at the IEEE Region 10 Meeting in Kolkata, India, in March 2012. In 2009, Prof. Dr. Riri Fitri Sari was named the Most Outstanding Lecturer at the University of Indonesia. Following a rigorous selection and competition, she was also selected as the 3rd Champion of the National Selection for National Achievers Lecturers held by the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia in commemoration of the 64th National Independence Day.
Since September 2015, she has been a member of the Special Task Force for Improving the Academic Reputation of Indonesian Higher Education Institutions at the Ministry of Research and Higher Education. Since 2020 She is the Member of Higher Education Board of Commitee.
Since April 2010, she has served as the Chairperson of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, a flagship program of the University of Indonesia to rank universities worldwide based on their green campuses and sustainability programs. Her international experience includes study and internship programs at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva and New York. She has also been involved in joint research at CERN (European Laboratory for Particle Physics) in Geneva, engineering education training funded by UNESCO in Australia, higher education management training in Japan (JICA), and as an invited speaker in Korea (KAIST), and delivered keynote speeches particularly on GreenMetric Network Conferences worldwide.
Prof. Dr. Riri Fitri Sari is a reviewer for various competitive grant schemes from Dikti Ditjen Dikti Kemendiknas, Kemenkominfo, the National Research and Development Agency, and the Directorate General of Civil Administration of the Ministry of Home Affairs. She has visited various IT industries such as Microsoft Research in Redmond, USA, Huawei Tech in Shenzhen, Wipro in Bangalore, and Samsung in Korea. Prof. Dr. Riri Fitri Sari was awarded the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) from Toastmaster International. She was the President of the UI Toastmaster Club and Secretary of Harvard Toastmaster Club. She has also received many awards such as the 2012 Inspirational Women and Youth from PT Indosat and the 2013 Kartini 2.0 Women in Technology from PT Telkom, Honorary Professor from Kazakhstan Agrarian National University in 2017. In 2023, Prof. Riri Fitri Sari was awarded with the prestigious Habibie Prize.
