Prof. Ferdous Sohel

Ferdous Sohel is currently a Professor in Information Technology at Murdoch University, Australia. He received a PhD from Monash University in Australia. He previously worked at the University of Western Australia. He leads research in computer vision, machine learning, pattern recognition, digital agriculture, AI for the environment, and medical health informatics. He has made significant contributions to these fields and published more than 270 scientific publications. He also leads the Digital Agriculture theme at Murdoch University, which aims to build digital capabilities and enhance digital technologies for improved farm productivity and food security. He has secured and successfully managed research grants worth nearly A$20 million.

He is a recipient of the Monash University PhD thesis medal. He has received several best paper awards. He is an educator, a supervisor and mentor of scholarships, a highly cited author, a keynote speaker, and an editorial board member of several journals. Prof Sohel was the inaugural program lead of the Agricultural Technologies of WA Agricultural Research Collaboration. He has hosted and mentored visiting international PhD students and academics. He has a strong network of collaborations.

He has served as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, IEEE Signal Processing Letters, and Computers and Electronics in Agriculture. He has served on many conference committees in various Chair and International Program Committee roles. He is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a senior member of the Australian Computer Society, and IEEE, and a member of ACM.
